From 1 July 2023, article 11 of the Bill on the acceleration of renewable energies will come into force. The law now provides that all outdoor car parks with more than 80 spaces install solar panels on at least half of their surface. To transform their car parks into solar installations, professionals will be able to count on photovoltaic shades. What is it and how to install them? We tell you more.
What is the Sun Shade?
As mentioned above, on November 4, 2022 the Senate adopted article 11 of the bill on the acceleration of renewable energies *. A project that will require owners of large car parks to install solar panels on at least 50% of their surface. This law is aimed in particular at large shopping centers and stores whose car park has more than 80 spaces. To proceed with this installation, car parks with more than 400 spaces have a period of three years from July 1, 2023. For car parks with 80 to 400 spaces, compliance must take place within 5 years. Heavy duty car parks and parking lots near remarkable sites are not affected by this measure. The Senate also provides for sanctions for car parks that will not respect this law. The fine will amount to 50 euros per location and per month, i.e. 5,000 euros per month for a 100-space car park.
To comply with this new regulation, parking owners will therefore have to equip themselves with photovoltaic shades. These structures are installed above the parking spaces. They protect vehicles below rain, snow, hail and UV rays. These structures are also equipped with solar modules which allow to capture the rays of the sun to transform them into electricity. Thanks to the solar shades, professionals will be able to take a step further towards their energy transition by producing their own renewable energy.
